5 inch Plantation Grown Lyptus Planking The Beauty and Durability of Mahogany in a Sustainable Species Recreate the Exotic Hardwood Floors of the Carribean |
|
What is Lyptus? Lyptus premium hardwood lumber is from a eucalyptus hybrid grown in managed forests in Brazil. These trees mature in about 15 years instead of the 40 to 60 years needed by similar hardwoods grown in colder climates. That means there's a consistent supply of high-quality hardwood available. One-third of the harvest area is left in native vegetation to help maintain elements of the natural ecosystem, making Lyptus flooring a smart environmental choice.
Lyptus is not
an endangered species and is not a rain forest species. Its tremendous growth values allow it to produce 30
times the volume of wood per acre, compared to unmanaged forests.
Lyptus is about the same as maple in terms of density, strength and technical properties, and has an appearance similar to that of cherry and especially mahogany. The superior quality and remarkable beauty of Lyptus make it the ideal hardwood for flooring.
Like cherry, Lyptus darkens significantly as it ages. Lyptus also displays a wide range of tones and grain patterns, making it a distinctly expressive wood choice. Planks will vary in length from 4 feet to 12 feet and will average about 8 feet!
The best way to finish Lyptus is with one of our rich stains and polyurethane top coats to bring out the depth and beauty of the graining. As with all of our prefinished planks they are finished with a coat of sealer on the bottom to help keep them stable.
These planks are a stunning recreation of the mahogany floors found in old buildings throughout the South and in many tropical locations.
